Opening Lines: One day my mom went out and left me at home with just my little sister and my dad. And so on and so forth, they go about town and out of town too until they find the father who has spent the whole time, still reading the newspaper. Once the boy begins to wonder if he had done the right thing by trading away his father, he begins to see the error in his way. Unfortunately, I can't say I enjoyed this picture book much. And the art was appropriate, of course. My dad doesn't pay much attention to anything when he's reading his newspaper.
The dialogue is witty, and expressed exactly as children would speak and behave. And I love how we never actually see the dad; he's always hidden behind the paper! His younger sister, not unnaturally, predicts trouble, and sure enough, when the boy's mother comes home, he is made to take the goldfish back. When he leaves for adventure, he finds three talking animals that are actually gods - and they need his help. Rather British, esp.
A cliched story of swapping one thing for another You can imagine this scenario with pretty much any preteen child. So neat he wants them. Is it realistic?

I hate bullies and Odd was amazing! Unfortunately, I can't say I enjoyed this picture book much. I am very partial to Norse Mythology and so I devoured the 96 pages in less than one hour. The story is about a boy when after a dull morning with his dad, decides that it is in his best interest to swap up.
Verdict: I believe children will like both books and as matter of fact, so will adults. There, I said it. Mum orders him to get dad back immediately and there follows a long adventure of finding out what else dad has been traded for along the way seems no-one else wants a dad who just reads the paper all the time either….
Also a very quirky and fun story, in true Gaiman style Like. The narrative is fantastic and the story itself is one of those where you want the hero to conquer everything and show his bullies how special he is.
I also enjoyed the exchanges and inevitable teasing between the brother and his sister. Where is he?
When he leaves for adventure, he finds three talking animals that are actually gods - and they need his help. I remember fighting with my brothers and sisters the same way!
The illustrations are great in this as well; beautiful and unusual. Harper Collins Publishers, rev. I find Dave McKean's style engrossing; there's so much to look at. This book was funny! Ha Most helpful negative review Average rating:2out of5stars, based onreviews Unfortunately, I cant So he decides he has had enough and runs away to the forest to live alone in his fathers old hunting hut.
The boy thinks this a pretty fair swap and out goes dad. The day I swapped my dad for two goldfish. All dad wants to do is read the paper. The father is oblivious to his repeatedly being swapped as he is immersed in reading the newspaper. The boy retaliates by threatening to tell everyone she is secretly fat.
If you'd like to talk about the bartering system and the history of money, this Youtube video is informative and very funny. They are ever present in his Sandman series Loki plays a huge part in it and American Gods too.
